PR1Ma DI FRaGIL3

La storia di FRaGIL3 inizia da due mie grandi passioni: il cinema e stare in mezzo ai giovani. Faccio fatica a ricordarmi come mi sia venuto lo spunto iniziale. Però c'è un giorno chiave, una data precisa e un momento raccolto in video su Skipe assieme a Mirko Bongi, il 16 marzo 2018, alle ore 16. Ora forse voi non vi ricorderete chi sia. E' un ragazzino che ha raccolto milioni di visualizzazioni su Youtube e Facebook con una sua apparizione ad Italia's Got Talent. Per motivi che qui è prematuto conoscere, sono entrato in contatto con lui, sono diventato suo manager, ho scritto insieme a lui uno spettacolo teatrale dal titolo "I nuvoloni in testa" che poi abbiamo portato in giro, molto meno di quanto avremmo voluto. E per il momento basta così. Però ha contribuito molto alla creazione del film, tanto da meritarsi il ruolo di co-sceneggiatore. Almeno in parte. Resta da antologia, o perlomeno da "bonus track" del futuro DVD/Blu-ray/4k, la sua reazione quando gli ho raccontato il finale a sorpresa del film...

B3FORe FRaGIL3

The story of FRAGILE begins with two of my great passions: cinema and being around young people. I struggle to remember how the initial inspiration came to me. But there's a key day, a specific date, and a moment captured on video on Skype with Mirko Bongi, March 16, 2018, at 4:00 PM. You probably don't remember who he is now. He's a young man who garnered millions of views on Youtube and Facebook with his appearance on Italia's Got Talent. For reasons that are too early to reveal here, I got in touch with him, became his manager, and co-wrote a play with him, intitled "I nuvoloni in testa" (The Clouds Overhead) that we then toured, much less than we would have liked. And that's enough for now. But he contributed significantly to the film's creation, so much so that he earned the role of co-screenwriter. At least in part. His reaction when I told him about the surprise ending of the film remains worthy of an anthology, or at least a "bonus track" for the future DVD/Blu-ray/4k.

Un'altra persona molto importante di questo progetto di FRaGIL3 è Edoardo Buscetta. Questa è la foto del 2018 di quando ci siamo conosciuti quando aveva circa 12 anni e lo feci venire a Cesena assieme a tutta la sua famiglia. Stava ancora realizzando una importante serie televisiva della Rai. "La mafia uccide solo d'estate", (a questo link il trailer su YouTube) di cui sono andate in onda due stagioni. Oggi si possono trovare ancora su Rai Play. Io stavo facendo per la prima volta il Corso di educazione alla legalità, organizzato in tre terze medie di una scuola di Forlì. È così decisi di chiamare la RAI e mi feci dare da loro la possibilità di contattare lui e la sua famiglia e di farli venire in aereo da Palermo a Cesena. È una bella storia e sicuramente avrò modo magari di raccontarvela. In ogni caso io ed Edoardo siamo ancora amici e ci scriviamo regolarmente su WhatsApp.

Another very important figure in this FRaGIL3 project is Edoardo Buscetta. This is a photo from 2018, taken when we first met – he was about 12 years old at the time – and I invited him to come to Cesena with his whole family. He was still working on a major Rai television series. "La mafia uccide solo d’estate" (The Mafia Only Kills in Summer), of which two series were broadcast. (You can still find them on RaiPlay today.) I was running the ‘Education in Legality’ course for the first time, organised across three Year 9 classes at a school in Forlì. So I decided to ring Rai and asked them to let me get in touch with him and his family and arrange for them to fly from Palermo to Cesena. It’s a lovely story and I’m sure I’ll have the chance to tell you about it one day. In any case, Edoardo and I are still friends and we message each other regularly on WhatsApp.

PERCHÉ FRAGILE?

Per tanti vari motivi.

1) È una parola facilmente riconoscibile in quattro dei principali linguaggi del mondo (inglese, spagnolo, francese, italiano) dove si scrive più o meno allo stesso modo e significa più o meno la stessa cosa...

2) Sintetizza splendidamente quello che volevo descrivere quando ho cominciato a pensare a questo film. La fragilità della nostra esistenza terrena, la fragilità del mondo che ci circonda e che viviamo, la fragilità della nostra capacità cognitiva e intellettiva. Da contrapporre, dunque, ad una chiara esigenza che tutti quanti sentiamo di riuscire a vivere più a lungo, ad essere più forti, più intelligenti, più responsabili delle nostre scelte, più consapevoli dei rischi che stiamo correndo, per noi e per l'umanità.

3) Perché tutti quanti abbiamo bisogno di credere che non sia tutto qui. Che tutta questa fragilità possa essere compensata più avanti al termine della nostra esistenza.

4) E INFINE PERCHÉ QUESTO ANELITO DI ETERNITÀ CI ACCOMUNA A TUTTO L'UNIVERSO...

WHY FRAGILE?

For many different reasons.

1) It's a word easily recognizable in four of the world's major languages (English, Spanish, French, Italian), where it's spelled more or less the same and means more or less the same thing...

2) It beautifully encapsulates what I wanted to describe when I began thinking about this film. The fragility of our earthly existence, the fragility of the world around us and in which we live, the fragility of our cognitive and intellectual capacity. To be contrasted, therefore, with a clear need we all feel to live longer, to be stronger, more intelligent, more responsible for our choices, more aware of the risks we are taking, for ourselves and for humanity.

3) Because we all need to think that this is'nt all it. That all this fragility can be compensated for later, at the end of our existence.

4) AND FINALLY BECAUSE THIS YEARNING FOR ETERNITY UNITES US WITH THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE...
